FPE Ergonomist of the Year Award

For outstanding and innovative contributions to the practice of ergonomics

The Foundation for Professional Ergonomics (FPE) Ergonomist of the Year Award is an annual award given to an individual (or group of individuals) who has made outstanding and innovative contributions to the practice of ergonomics in one or more areas related to analysis, design, development, and evaluation of human-compatible process or system(s).  With an initial award in 2016, the FPE recognizes colleagues who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the practice of ergonomics through their professional lifetime achievements and/or specific implementation projects.  Each year there will be a single award unless it is determined that two of nominated candidates are essentially tied.  The name(s) of recipients and year of receipt will be inscribed on a permanent display to be showcased as a minimum at annual meetings.

The award will consist of granting $1000 in the name of the recipient(s) to the FPE’s Ergonomists Without Borders project (and other worthy FPE projects to be considered annually, e.g., Dieter Jahns student award, seminars) with the balance after costs going to the FPE’s general fund.  The award will be funded annually (at least initially) by $1000 grants each from Waldemar Karwowski and Harvey Cohen.

The process for selecting award candidates is a committee process consisting of the previous year award winner and the FPE Board members.  The previous year winner will nominate an individual and provide a brief description of their key accomplishments.  The selection will be by simple majority vote of the Board with a run-off of the two highest vote getters, if necessary.

The presentation of the award will be during the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Annual meeting.  It will be during a social event with the time and place announced before the Annual meeting.

Who We Are

The Foundation for Professional Ergonomics was established in 2004 as a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing professionalism in ergonomics through educational activities and awards.  Our goals support the goals of BCPE, and we work closely with the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) on various ergonomics practitioner initiatives.  FPE attained an IRS 501(c)(3) status enabling tax-deductible donations from those sharing this dedication to professionalism in ergonomics.
